Turkish Penal Code TCK and the Importance of Modern Law

The Turkish Penal Code (TCK) is one of the cornerstones of criminal law in Turkey. First enacted on June 1, 2005, this code aims to protect individual rights and freedoms, maintain public order, and prevent criminal activities. The TCK ensures that crimes and penalties are clearly defined while guaranteeing a fair judicial process.

For instance, Article 2 of the TCK emphasizes the principle “No crime and no penalty without law,” ensuring that the concepts of crime and punishment must be defined by legislation. This principle safeguards individual rights and prevents arbitrary practices by the state.

One of the most significant aspects of the TCK today is its alignment with international standards. By incorporating provisions for human rights, the protection of women and children’s rights, combating cybercrime, and addressing environmental crimes, the TCK stands out as a modern legal framework suited to contemporary challenges.
